Vanime Review

Assassin's Creed Rogue is rightfully hailed as the darkest chapter in the Assassin's Creed franchise, and for good reason. The game's graphics, akin to Black Flag, have received slight tweaks and improvements, creating a visually captivating environment, particularly in parts with glaciers, ice, and snow-covered areas. The sound effects are truly impressive, but the real standout is the game's music, a modified version of "Ezio's Family" from Assassin's Creed 2, adding emotional depth to the experience. Unlike the traditional Assassin's Creed story, the plot of Rogue takes a different turn, as our protagonist, Shay, transitions from an assassin to a templar. His realization that both factions have flaws leads him to question their motives and ultimately oppose them, all in a quest to save the world from destruction. The storyline is well-crafted, with only a few minor loopholes, but the game's main drawback is its brevity. Nonetheless, the narrative ties in neatly with the events of Black Flag and sets the stage for the subsequent installment, Unity, as revealed in the game's conclusion. It's regrettable that the anticipated clash between Shay and Arno in Unity never came to fruition, as it could have heightened the excitement surrounding the game. In conclusion, Assassin's Creed Rogue is a gripping and thought-provoking addition to the franchise, offering a unique perspective and showcasing a well-developed storyline, although it leaves players yearning for more. The game provides an immersive experience, unveiling the complexities of the Assassin-Templar conflict, and remains a must-play for any Assassin's Creed enthusiast.
